Dear Hibernians and Pro-Life Friends,

A statement of 25/Nov/2009 from Seamus Boyle, AOH National President, starts: "Brothers, the Ancient Order of Hibernians does not nor have they ever condoned abortion rights and many times have mistakenly honored people who later turn out to be against many of the teachings of our Church".

These words are most welcome, but there's more to it. At national, state and local levels, the AOH has honored politicians who they knew to be Pro-Abortion!

In 1995, despite prior protests from myself and others, the AOH (National) presented the Sean MacBride Humanitarian Award to Albert Reynolds, the former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland. The Reynolds' government tried to introduce abortion in 1992, and legalized homosexuality and condoms for kids in 1993.

In 1997, despite prior protests from myself and others, the AOH (National) awarded the JFK Memorial Medal to Gerry Adams and John Hume. Adams is in favor of divorce and homosexuality. His Sinn Fein party favors abortion. In the House of Commons (British Parliament) John Hume voted to reduce the age of consent for homosexuals.

In 1999, despite prior protests from myself and others, including Massachusetts Citizens for Life (MCFL) --- then the state's leading Pro-Life organization --- the AOH  (Massachusetts) gave an award to the notoriously Pro-Abortion brothers, State Rep. Steven Tolman and State Senator Warren Tolman, both AOH members.

In 2001, despite prior protests from myself and others --- including Brother Ray Neary, then President of MCFL, and Paul Griffin, AOH State Pro-Life Chair --- Tom Gilfoy, President of Div. 16, Marlborough, MA, accepted an award from U.S. Rep. Marty Meehan, a notorious Pro-Abortion politician. An AOH check for $500 was written to Brother Francis "Bud" Foley, who then wrote his own check for $500 to the Meehan campaign. This was a deliberate, deceitful and illegal act to circumvent AOH and FEC rules.

These are just a few examples of the AOH betraying the unborn.

Yours in Pro-Life,

John O'Gorman
