*CHA Board Bishop: 'I Side With USCCB' against Health Bill*

By Kathleen Gilbert

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, March 16, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/>) - Bishop Robert Lynch of St. Petersburg
has stepped into the row between the Catholic Health Association (CHA),
on whose board he is a member, and the U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops (USCCB), siding with the bishops in fighting the CHA-endorsed
abortion-expanding Senate health care bill.

The CHA sparked controversy over the weekend by throwing its weight
behind the vastly pro-abortion Senate health bill. CHA president Sr.
Carol Keehan had issued a letter to lawmakers urging them to "move
quickly to enact health care reform," and characterized the legislation
as "a major first step" - despite not being "perfect" on life issues.

Days later, USCCB president Cardinal Francis George directly disagreed
with CHA's assessment, affirming that the bill's flaws on life issues
are "so fundamental that they vitiate the good that the bill intends to
promote."

*"As a member of the Board of the Catholic Health Association, I too
want universal access to health care in this country to all our
inhabitants," wrote Lynch, also a member of the USCCB, on his blog
<http://blogs.dosp.org/bishoplynch/2010/03/16/hospitals-and-bishops/>Tuesday.
"But I do not wish it through a vehicle that expands abortion rights or
weakens conscience clause protection.*

"So I side with the USCCB on this one."

Lynch, who was recently hospitalized, noted: "During the time of my
confinement, I have been led to believe that CHA and USCCB were working
together to eliminate any language in the health care proposals which
threatened the effectiveness of the long standing Hyde amendment."

While Lynch said CHA supported the Stupak language, which reflected the
Hyde amendment in the House health care bill, he says the organization
"prefers" the vastly more pro-abortion Senate version "as they deem it
ultimately more successful, more efficient, and more effective than the
House passed version."

Defending the bishops' condemnation of the Senate bill, Lynch said:
"Were the bishops' conference asking for new legislation, further
tightening access to abortion or writing new abortion language law, it
would have trouble. From the beginning the bishops have said only we
must insure (sic) that we keep what we have."

"If this were a tennis match, it would not yet be 'game' but 'advantage
bishops,'" said the bishop. "However, the game is still not over
although it is approaching match point."

"I hope and pray that in these final decisive days, the Congress will
see the wisdom of the Church's position on abortion in health care as
articulated by the bishops and the experience and wisdom of the Catholic
Health Care providers who yearn for a reform of a system which is
failing and becoming incredibly expensive -- to maintain and to access,"
he wrote.

Lynch ended by expressing hope that "both CHA and the USCCB can unite in
general support" of health care reform with pro-life protection.

*Planned Parenthood tells Girl Scouts to "talk dirty"

*The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a panel
this week where Planned Parenthood was allowed to hand out a brochure
encouraging girls to "talk dirty
<http://ss.all.org/link.php?M=110638&N=697&L=4909&F=H>" to their sex
partners, to engage in aberrant sex, and claiming there is no right or
wrong way to have sex. The no-parents-invited Girl Scout panel was a
part of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

The brochure, published by International Planned Parenthood Association
and entitled "Healthy, Happy and Hot," says that young people living
with HIV have the "right to sexual pleasure" and "have the right to
decide if, when and how to disclose their HIV status." It goes on to say
that laws requiring young people to disclose their HIV status to sexual
partners "violate the rights of people living with HIV by forcing them
to disclose or face the possibility of criminal charges," and tells them
to complain about any agency that tells them they should not have sex,
and to shop around for a place where they feel more respected.

According to the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute:

    The Girl Scouts...have been co-moderating a young women's caucus
that included an "Intergenerational Conversation" side event on
"universal access" and "reproductive health." One recent Girl Scout
project "aims at securing the right of women, men and adolescents
aged between ten and twenty-five, to better reproductive and sexual
    health."

*PP closes Franklin, IN, facility following years of pro-life activism
    *

As it promised it would in September of 2009, PP of Indiana has shut
    down its Franklin facility.

Tony Eichhold reports from Franklin that Jim Sedlak, founder of
STOPP, visited nearby Greenwood, Indiana, where he gave a
presentation at Our Lady's Church, and that on-site prayer vigils
began at the Franklin PP facility in the early 2000's. The vigils
took place on the first Saturday of every month for eight or nine
years, with three to eight people commonly in attendance. The group
prayed the Rosary, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and prayers from the
prayerbook "In the Palm of His Hand."

Tony faxed a picture of the empty building with a "For Lease" sign
in the window that was taken on February 27 of this year.

Congratulations to those pro-lifers who stood their ground year
after year in opposition to PP in Franklin, and to the new ones who
joined in along the way to oppose Planned Parenthood. STOPP is
pleased to have been a part of the opposition to this PP facility
    that ended in its closure!

*Judicial Bypass of Parental Consent for Abortion SB 242
<http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/bills.cfm?ID=128_SB_242>
*
/*Bill Introduced in Ohio Senate to Tighten Requirements

*/March 17, 2010 - Ohio Right to Life
<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?et=1103203275468&s=1461&e=001yEAFkBQzOeWWtOJqq9pqjdvh5GNHIgRyeJgem13kHu9Glt3GtfXElTtJBuiGjQBKu38y2pI-jjTcuudsdG4OO6xbBMlV_Ol-cnp5iTc_0uo=>
- Today Sen. Tim Grendell (R, Chesterland) and Sen. Karen Gillmor (R,
Tiffin) introduced S.B. 242, a bill to revise the process of judicial
bypass under Ohio's Parental Consent for Abortion statute.

Under federal court rulings, parental consent statutes must permit a
minor girl to "bypass" the parental consent requirement by convincing a
juvenile judge either that:

1) she is mature and well enough informed to decide whether to have an
abortion; or
2) the abortion is in her best interests.

The bill addresses the fact that some judges are giving virtual
"rubber-stamp" approval to these judicial bypass requests.

In a 2008 Columbus Dispatch article on bypass hearings, one Franklin
County judge indicated that she had never denied a bypass request and
another judge stated that she had denied only one request. A 2003 Akron
Beacon Journal survey found a bypass approval rate of either 86% or 92%
(the latter when a county that lumped voluntary dismissals with denials
was excluded).

S.B. 242 would require that:

- The girl must prove her case by "clear and convincing evidence";
- The judge ask about the girl's understanding of the possible physical
and emotional complications of abortion and what she would do if she
experienced such complications; and
- The judge question the extent that the girl has been "prepped" about
how to answer questions and what testimony to give at the bypass hearing.

In addition to Senators Grendell and Gillmor, Ohio Senators
co-sponsoring S.B. 242 are: Steve Buehrer; Keith Faber; Jon Husted; Tim
Schaffer; Bill Seitz; and Chris Widener.
