/*The mother who came back from the dead - ten minutes after her life

/A mother of two has stunned doctors by apparently coming back from the
dead. Velma Thomas's heart stopped beating three times and she was
clinically brain dead for 17 hours. Her son had left the hospital to
make funeral arrangements, having been told she would not survive. But
ten minutes after her life support system was shut down and doctors were
preparing to take her organs for donation, the 59-year-old woke up.

*University of Wisconsin** paying to train future abortionists at
Planned Parenthood*

 The results of an open records request by Pro-Life Wisconsin and the
Alliance Defense Fund reveal that since 2007, more than $58,878 of funds
of a state agency have gone to train future abortionists at Planned
Parenthood.

 "Medical residents from the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and
Clinics Authority [UWHCA] participate in training at the Planned
Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) facility in Madison, WI... UWHCA
continues to pay its residents while they are in training at PPWI,"
stated James Dechene, senior vice president and general counsel for
UWHCA, in response to the open records request. Click here to view
Dechene's letter <http://www.prolifewisconsin.org/PDFs/UWHCA_PP.pdf>.

 "Wisconsin law is very clear: No state agency can fund abortion or
abortion programs," said Peggy Hamill, state director of Pro-Life
Wisconsin. "The University of Wisconsin and its Hospital are not above
the law."

 Statute 20.927 of Wisconsin law states, "No funds of this state or of
any... agency of this state... shall be authorized for or paid to a
physician or surgeon or a hospital, clinic or other medical facility for
the performance of an abortion." Click here to view statute 20.927
<http://nxt.legis.state.wi.us/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates&fn=default.htm&d=stats&jd=20.927>. Statute
20.9275 additionally prohibits spending state funds on programs that
provide, encourage, or refer for abortions. Click here to view statute
20.9275
<http://nxt.legis.state.wi.us/nxt/gateway.dll?f=templates&fn=default.htm&d=stats&jd=20.9275>.

 Despite this clear state law, since 2007 over $58,878 of funds of an
"agency of this state" (UWHCA) have been "paid to a physician" (medical
residents) "for the performance of an abortion" (during PPWI training)
in direct violation of Wis. Stat. § 20.927(1m).

Medical residents in the UW School of Medicine Ob/Gyn Department have
two four-week rotations at Planned Parenthood, where they view and
participate in abortions. To view the rotation schedule, click here
<http://www.obgyn.wisc.edu/residency/documents/Resident%20Learning%20Objectives.pdf>.
To view the signed contract between UW and Planned Parenthood of
Wisconsin, click here
<http://www.prolifewisconsin.org/files/MOU_PPWI_UW.pdf>.

In a November 14, 2008 email, Carl Getto, M.D., stated, "UWHC has been
paying for the [Planned Parenthood] rotation to date. We will continue
to do so. Please let Planned Parenthood know." Click here to view
Getto's email <http://www.prolifewisconsin.org/files/CarlGetto.pdf>.
Getto is the senior vice president of medical affairs at UWHC.

"As a UW graduate, I am appalled that UW's proud legacy of excellence in
sports, music, research and nationally ranked programs is stained with
the destruction of innocent human life," said Virginia Zignego,
communications director of Pro-Life Wisconsin. "UW's blood runs red,
indeed."

*Project to get transplant organs from ER patients raises ethics questions
*

By Rob Stein
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, March 15, 2010; A01

In the hope of expanding a controversial form of organ donation into
emergency rooms around the United States, a federally funded project has
begun trying to obtain kidneys, livers and possibly other body parts
from car-accident victims, heart-attack fatalities and other urgent-care
patients.

Using a $321,000 grant from the Department of Health and Human Services,
the emergency departments at the University of Pittsburgh Medical
Center-Presbyterian Hospital <http://www.upmc.com/Pages/default.aspx>
and Allegheny General Hospital <http://www.wpahs.org/agh/> in Pittsburgh
have started rapidly identifying donors among patients whom doctors are
unable to save and taking steps to preserve their organs so a transplant
team can rush to try to retrieve them...[cont'd at link above]...

*We've enhanced some of the features on the PFLI Web Site
<http://www.pfli.org> recently:*

1) a statement about the ABC link is now on the left hand side of the
main page under the PFLI Poll;
2) scrolling marquee highlighting items that were previously static on
the main page; this item is at the top of the News and Content section
of the main page;
3) addition of some primo text from the ABC Coalition's website on
breast cancer and the link to abortion as well as abortifacient
so-called oral "contraceptives"; this is included on the marquee
mentioned in #2;
4) a new look to the PFLI Poll;
5) scrolling short news items that either didn't make the news page or
were included in a previous PFLI E-News email, on the left near the
clock and hit counter;
6) a banner at the top supporting our campaign to raise $50,000 in
donations for member renewals, pregnancy help centers and to beef up our
efforts to reach more pharmacists.

Hope you like the enhancements. Constructive feedback is always welcome
