Dems to Stupak: More Abortions = Fewer Babies = Lower Gov' t Costs*
<http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/viewonsite.html?articleid=10031215>
Stupak threated with ethics complaints for opposing health care bill

By Kathleen Gilbert

WASHINGTON, DC, March 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/>) - Democrats explaining their
stubbornness to maintain the abortion funding in the Senate health care
bill have admitted that a primary motivation for doing so lies in
encouraging more abortions, lest more children born put a strain on
government funds, said Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mich.) as reported by
National Review Online
<http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MzU0MDYxMWEyOTdiNGU1OGU3ZjYzYmE3Y2ZlZDQ5NTY=>.

"If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and
therefore it will cost us millions more. That's one of the arguments
I've been hearing [from Democrat leaders]," Stupak said in a phone
interview published Friday. "Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now
value life in America? If money is the issue --- come on, we can find
room in the budget. This is life we're talking about."

Stupak called the revelations "a pretty sad commentary on the state of
the Democratic party."

The Michigan Democrat also lamented that "enormous" political pressure
from Democrat leaders has likely "peel[ed] off one or two of my twelve"
- that is, the twelve pro-life Democrats who vowed with Stupak not to
vote for health care reform without a ban on abortion funding.

"Even if they don't have the votes, it's been made clear to us that they
won't insert our language on the abortion issue," he said.

Stupak also lamented that he was coming under pressure in the form
of threats to tarnish his record with ethics complains, should he
continue to hold out against the bill.

"This has really reached an unhealthy stage," Stupak said. "People are
threatening ethics complaints on me. On the left, they're really
stepping it up. Every day, from Rachel Maddow to the Daily Kos, it keeps
coming. Does it bother me? Sure. Does it change my position? No."

A House Budget Committee is expected to begin reviewing the
abortion-expanding Senate bill Monday, and could vote on the measure
within ten days.

*Pesky Florida Pro-lifers Bring End to Planned Parenthood Program Funding

After four years of dedicated activism, a group of Florida pro-lifers is
celebrating a "David and Goliath victory" after consistent pressure
apparently forced a Planned Parenthood program not to re-apply for a
county grant. Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast
has acknowledged it will not request a $50,000 grant from the Martin
County Children's Services Council for its La Promesa program, which was
aimed at teaching the Hispanic community about contraception and
abortion, in fiscal year 2010/11.

The World Association of Girl Scouts and Girl Guides hosted a
no-adults-welcome panel at the United Nations this week where Planned
Parenthood was allowed to distribute a brochure entitled "Healthy, Happy
and Hot." The event was part of the annual United Nations Commission on
the Status of Women (CSW) which concludes this week. The brochure, aimed
at young people living with HIV, contains explicit and graphic details
on sex, as well as the promotion of casual sex in many forms.

*Study Finds Unborn Babies Respond to Mother's Mood*

<http://ss.all.org/link.php?M=18096&N=692&L=4907&F=H>
Life Site News
Scientists have discovered that unborn babies respond to their mother's
mood while she is watching a movie, becoming quiet and still if the film
is sad and very lively if the film is happy. Dr. Kazuyuki Shinohara and
colleagues in the Department of Neurobiology and Behavior of Nagasaki
University in Japan showed 10 pregnant volunteers a cheery 5-minute clip
from the Julie Andrews musical The Sound of Music. Another 14 watched a
tear-jerking 5 minutes from the 1979 Franco Zeffirelli film The Champ,
in which a boy cries at the death of his father. Each clip was
sandwiched between two "neutral" film clips so that the team could
measure any changes in fetal movements against a baseline.
