*IPPF Whines Canadian Conservative Government Delaying Millions $$$ in
Funding*

By Patrick B. Craine

OTTAWA, Ontario, February 11, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/>) -- The International Planned Parenthood
Federation (IPPF), the world's largest abortion provider, is complaining
that the Canadian government has not yet responded to their request for
a funding renewal of $18 million over the next three years.

IPPF spokesman Paul Bell told Canwest News Service that IPPF was "taken
by surprise" after Michael Ignatieff pointed out the delay in IPPF's
funding last week while he was pushing for abortion in Prime Minister
Stephen Harper's new G8 maternal and child health plan.

The news of the delay in IPPF funding follows a petition launched
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2009/nov/09110203.html>last year by
Conservative Member of Parliament Brad Trost (Saskatoon-Humboldt), which
asked the government to completely cut funding to the abortion giant.
Trost told LifeSiteNews (LSN) in November that his goal was for the
funding not to be renewed when it expired in December.

Besides IPPF's provision of and advocacy for abortion, Trost's petition
also pointed out that IPPF "does not support physicians' freedom to
practice according to their conscience and/or religious beliefs
regarding abortion referral."

IPPF's promotion of abortion is part and parcel of their radical view of
sexuality that would be offensive to many Canadians. This radical
approach was highlighted last month when IPPF released
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/jan/10012808.html> a new report
entitled "Stand and Deliver," in which they demand that children ten
years and older be given a "comprehensive sexuality education."

"Young people are sexual beings," the report states. "With young people
as partners, today's adult decision-makers have the chance to recast sex
and sexuality as a positive force for change and development, as a
source of pleasure, an embodiment of human rights and an expression of
self."

The report states that young people must be able to "obtain the services
they need and want, unconstrained by psychological, attitudinal,
cultural or social factors." Governments should ensure that sex
education is delivered even to children who do not attend school, IPPF
maintained.

Additionally, last month, Planned Parenthood vice president of
international programs, Veena Siddharth, related
<http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2010/jan/10012203.html> how the
organization is engaged in training Ecuadorean children as young as 11
to inject their peers with the abortifacient contraceptive drug
Depo-Provera.

Bell told Canwest that IPPF put their application into the Canadian
International Development Agency (CIDA) in mid-2009, and they have not
been told why the funding is delayed. Canada's previous commitment of
$6 million a year ended on December 30, 2009. Bell indicated that the
delay in funding means they must rely on 'reserve' funds.

"At the moment we really are in a position where we don't know what the
delay is," Bell told Canwest. "But of course it does have a consequence
the longer it goes on for."

Jim Hughes, president of Campaign Life Coalition, laughed when LSN asked
him about IPPF's complaint over having to dip into 'reserve' funds.
"That's your dollar and mine sitting there in their repository," he said.

Hughes applauded the government for holding off on the funding and urged
them to direct Canadian aid to truly beneficial initiatives. "I think
it's a very positive move in these uncertain economic times," he said,
"when you want to make sure that whatever taxpayer funding is available
is directed to causes that will help women and children in Third World
countries, just as Mr. Harper outlined in his plans for the G8."

[*NOTE:* Have they completely "forgotten the /Categories/"? "*Natural
Law*" does *not* refer to the nature of the "cosmos"; it refers to the
nature of human beings -- *HUMAN* nature. Deducing "natural law ethics"
from the nature of the cosmos will result in totally different ethical
principles than if it is properly deduced from our empirically-derived
concept of "human nature". Those "cosmic" ethical principles will
necessarily contradict most of the moral teachings of the Church. Must
have been a whole lot of book-burning going on over the last 30
years. (See Part 6 of Irving presentation, "Human Personhood and the
Domino Effect", on YouTube, at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ23Sg84oSk&feature=channel
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ23Sg84oSk&feature=channel>). Nor is
"bioethics" conducive to the moral teachings of the Church; before 1978
there was no such thing as "bioethics". It was concocted out of thin
air then by a U.S. Congressionally mandated politically
appointed 11-member committee, none of whom were then bioethicists since
the field did not yet exist (/The Belmont Report/; see the entire
history and analysis of the formal "birth of bioethics" in 1978 in
Irving, *"/What/ is 'bioethics'?"* (June 3, 2000), at:

also contradicts most of the moral teachings of the Church. What is
going on? -- DNI]

*Pontifical Academy for Life to discuss bioethics and natural law*

Vatican City, Feb 11, 2010 / 11:22 am (CNA
<http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/>).- The Pontifical Academy for Life
began its 16th plenary meeting Thursday afternoon under the theme of
"Bioethics and Natural Law." The sessions of the congress will seek to
"regain" an understanding of natural law.

President of the Academy for Life, Archbishop Rino Fisichella, told
Vatican Radio before the start of the gathering that the assembled
members of the Academy for Life would be seeking to confront the
different positions on the theme and to "regain that common denominator
that is found in natural law and that ... isn't an invention of the
Catholic Church.

"Natural law is a reality that all of us are called to discover
continuously," he stated, adding that throughout the centuries the
Greeks, Romans and other religions have recognized it as the
"fundamental nucleus through which it's possible to discover and
complete a first discernment between that which is good and ... evil, in
light of that which is imprinted on nature itself."

"And nature, in this case, doesn't make any distinction: *nature only
calls us back to that cosmic order that is present everywhere and that
we can only recognize, indeed interpret, but primarily respect*,"
Archbishop Fisichella explained.

The congress of the Pontifical Academy for Life will be taking place in
the Vatican's New Synod Hall from Feb. 11 - 13 and will conclude with an
audience with Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday.

Personhood Mississippi Required to Submit Signatures in State of Emergency

JACKSON, Feb. 12 /Christian Newswire/ -- The state of Mississippi has
insisted that Personhood Mississippi volunteers turn in petitions today,
one day before their one year deadline, despite a recently declared
state of emergency.

Governor Barbour has declared a state of emergency, and ordered that all
government offices and buildings be closed. "I urge everyone to exercise
caution in this winter storm, and travel only when necessary," the
Governor stated on his website. The executive order was also signed by
Secretary of State Hosemann.

Despite the terrible weather and dangerous road conditions, Personhood
Mississippi Sponsor Les Riley has been directed to submit the signatures
today, and was told that regardless of the weather, the Secretary of
State's office is expecting the signatures by 5pm -- yet no one is
answering the phone at the Secretary of State's office, and it appears
that the office is closed.

"The Governor warned everyone in the state only to travel when
necessary, except for those working on the Personhood Amendment,"
observed Attorney Stephen Crampton. "Personhood Mississippi has been
singled out, and it is putting undue hardship on its volunteers. I would
never have expected the State of Emergency to apply to everyone but
those working for Personhood."

Personhood Mississippi's 10am court hearing this morning was delayed
because of the weather. The hearing was for the recently filed a lawsuit
in an attempt to clarify the intent of the law, giving volunteers the
full twelve months to circulate petitions as outlined by statutes and
the County Circuit Clerk the time needed to correctly validate the
signatures.

"We have over 114,000 signatures, with over 95,000 certified," announced
amendment sponsor Les Riley. "Our volunteers have already gladly
sacrificed countless hours getting signatures. Now they are asking us to
sacrifice our safety to turn in these signatures. I am willing to make
the trip because this is a life and death issue. We know that all human
beings are people, from the moment of their biological beginning, and we
are willing to do whatever we are able to see that all human life is
valued and protected."

Personhood Mississippi is a grassroots organization comprised of
Mississippi citizens who value all human life, from biological beginning
to natural death.
