*Swiss Women Abandoning the Pill Due to Adverse Health Effects*

Matthew Cullinan Hoffman

PARIS, February 26, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The use of the
contraceptive pill is plummeting among younger women, in response to
growing awareness of its destructive health effects, reports a French
bioethics site.

According to the site "Genetique," the use of "the pill" among women
aged 15 to 24 years old dropped from 43% in 2003 to 26% in 2007. The
rate of childbirth among the same group increased at the same time.

"The principal reason for this decrease is the attention paid by women
to their health," says Genetique. "It is now proven that the pill
suppresses libido and causes weight gain. The fear of cancer and
sterility are equally responsible."

According to numerous studies on the effects of the contraceptive pill,
its use is also linked to increased risk of heart disease, hypertension,
and stroke.

There is a glimmer of hope in Washington State that the right of a
health care provider to follow his or her conscience will be recognized
as HB 1687 is introduced on January 27, 2009. Details are available at

<http://apps.leg.wa.gov/billinfo/summary.aspx?bill=1687&year=2009> . It
looks like a well written bill that could be introduced in other states.

HB 1687 *Providing health care provider right of conscience.*

4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

10 the delivery of, or arrangement for, health care services and medical

11 care whether acting individually, corporately, or in association with

12 other persons; and to prohibit all forms of discrimination,
