ALL: EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RULES are 'CANNIBALIZATION' OF NATION'S WEAKEST 
MEMBERS

*Washington, DC (07 July 2009)* -- American Life League president Judie 
Brown issued the following statement on the National Institutes of 
Health's new embryonic stem cell research rules. The NIH rules -- the 
most permissive guidelines ever released -- call for federal tax funding 
of research that necessitates the destruction of countless preborn human 
beings -- an act the Catholic Church calls an "intrinsic evil."

"The United States once stood for equality and justice, based on the 
dignity of the human person -- the basic building block of our society. 
Yet, today our country has taken another huge step backward, as it 
embraces ever-worsening dehumanization.

"The Obama administration's new embryonic stem cell research guidelines 
mark a new low in our government's tax-funded and imposed culture of 
death. The nation's most vulnerable human beings are now being torn 
apart for research and treated as leftover table scraps that need to be 
recycled.

"The new rules confirm, in black and white, that human beings created in 
the laboratory by in vitro fertilization, are now considered mere 
products that, if 'no longer needed,' 'left over' or destined to be 
'thrown away,' can also be destroyed in a laboratory.

"Nary a word has been heard from our president or the National 
Institutes of Health acknowledging that such research kills a human 
being. Clearly, those who made this decision do not recognize the 
humanity of the human embryo.

"But the fact remains that each American taxpayer is now funding the 
cannibalization and dismemberment of our country's weakest and most 
vulnerable members. And this is a fact for which we, as a nation, will 
one day have to answer to God.

"Here, in what was once a bastion of liberty and equality, the nation 
Abraham Lincoln called 'the last best hope of earth,' we are now 
sacrificing 'throwaway' human beings on the altar of science."
