A word of caution in signing on the the UN petition....

Dear Prolife Community:

Although I am sure it is done for the most sincere of reasons, everal 
prolife organizations have sent around petitions to the United Nations 
to be signed today to "protect the unborn".  However, it would be 
disastrous to the prolife cause if these petitions as currently worded 
were to actually be passed at the United Nations because the language 
used in these petitions would only cover those human beings reproduced 
sexually, and even those human beings would only be protected at the end 
of life if their deaths were "natural".  Please see the following

As you will note in the petitions copied below, they both state that 
proper consideration must be given to "*[_T]he right to life of every 
human being, from conception to natural death_"**.  *As in other laws 
and regulations, to use such language is "selective" -- that is, only 
those human beings who are specifically articulated in these petitions 
will be covered by the U.N. declaration.  Those not specifically 
articulated in these petitions would not be covered.  The following 
innocent living human beings would not be covered by these petitions:

1.  Because *the term "conception" usually means "fertilization"*, and 
because fertilization (sexual reproduction) is only one means by which 
human beings are reproduced, those unborn human beings (and adults!) who 
are asexually reproduced (without the use of sperm and oocyte) would not 
be covered by these petitions.  That would include one of 
every two naturally occurring human monozygotic identical twins who have 
been "twinned" within the mother's body (in her fallopian tubes or in 
her "womb"), as well as all unborn human beings (and adults!) asexually 
reproduced in vitro in IVF/ART laboratories or clinics (e.g., those 
reproduced by any of the many different kinds of cloning, genetic 
engineering, etc.).  Therefore, these innocent living human beings could 
be aborted, used in destructive research, reproduced in IVF/ART 
laboratories and clinics, killed by the use of any and all 
abortifacients, used to produce vaccines, etc.

Because *the term "conception" already is legally defined in many states 
and national/international law as meaning "beginning at implantation"*, 
then all unborn human beings (and adults!) reproduced sexually 
(fertilization) before they implant in their mother's "wombs" are not 
covered by these petitions.  Therefore, these innocent living human 
beings could be aborted, used in destructive research, reproduced in 
IVF/ART laboratories and clinics, killed by the use of any and all 
abortifacients, used to produce vaccines, etc.

2.  Because *the phrase "to natural death" would not cover those 
innocent living human beings who die unnatural deaths*, literally all 
human beings undergoing unnatural deaths would not be covered by these 
petitions.

I am happy to discuss this with anyone who wishes to contact me.  Once 
such erroneous "scientific" definitions are concretized into laws, 
regulations, U.N. Declarations, etc., it will take many decades to undo 
the harm perpetrated by them.  If prolife is concerned with protecting 
and respecting the lives of /all /human beings, whether born or unborn, 
whether sexually or asexually reproduced, whether reproduced /in vivo/ 
or /in vitro/, whether adolescents or adults, at every stage in their 
lives, including death -- whether natural or unnatural --, then it is 
past time to get these scientific statements correct and accurate.  
Otherwise, they simply create legislative loopholes for devious 
politicians, legislators, and others.

    International Call for the Rights and Dignity of the Human Person
    and the Family

We, the citizens of UN member states, in this year of the 60th 
anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted and 
proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution 217 A (III) of 10 
December 1948,

Recalling that:

The Universal Declaration is a common standard of achievement for all 
peoples and all Nations,

Bearing in mind that:

Human rights, dignity, freedom, equality, solidarity and justice 
constitute the spiritual and moral patrimony on which the union of 
Nations is based,

Stress that:

Proper consideration must be given to

    * *_The right to life of every human being, from conception to
      natural death,_* each child having the right to be conceived, born
      and educated within the family, based on marriage between a woman
      and a man, the family being the natural and fundamental group unit
      of society,
    * The right of every child to be educated by his or her parents, who
      have a prior and fundamental right to choose the kind of education
      that shall be given to their children.

Therefore, we call upon:

All governments to interpret the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 
properly such that:

    * Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person
      (Article 3)
    * Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race,
      nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a
      family (Article 16).
    * The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society
      and is entitled to protection by society and the State (Article 16).
    * Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and
      assistance (Article 25).
    * Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that
      shall be given to their children (Article 26).
