You might find Walgreen Drugs spin on the firing ot these 4 phamacists interesting.

Allen K. Williams

History is filled with the excuse, "we were just following the law".

Requiring pharmacists to dispense these drugs is not much different than requiring all doctors to perform abortions, after all, it is the law.

Have you noticed that doctors are not required to perform abortions in medical school if it conflicts with there religious or moral views.

How can you then require a pharmacist to dispense drugs that will terminate a human life.

One simple solution would be for Walgreen's to stop selling those particular drugs, thereby not requiring any pharmacist employed by Walgreen's to make that decision.

The profits made from that particular product can not be that great in proportion to all the other products sold by Walgreen's, and the net result would be an increase in overall sales to many conservative Christians.

Let the conservative Christians boycott the other pharmacies and bring there business to Walgreen's.

Why not let Walgreen's be a leader instead of a follower.

Mr. Williams:
You will note that in my original communication to you, I indicated "where allowed by state law". The situation that you outline below concerns four pharmacists in Illinois. The Governor of the State of Illinois has initiated a specific law that made our actions necessary............and contrary to our policy in all the other states ( 43) that we operate.

We certainly regret this entire situation.........but it was outside our control. We must comply with the law.

Thanks for bringing your concerns to my attention.........and we regret any confusion on this matter.

Mr. Burgess:

The public should be aware that Walgeen Drugs has fired four pharmacists for refusing to fill prescriptions for abortifacient drugs in violation of their religious beliefs.

The firings have occurred subsequent to your Aug. 11, 2005 response to my letter indicating otherwise. You stated in your letter to me that "To fairly resolve these situations, and where allowed by state law, we believe it’s reasonable to respect the individual pharmacist’s beliefs by not requiring them to fill a prescription they object to on religious grounds."

POST-DISPATCH
Tuesday, Nov. 29 2005

"Four Walgreens pharmacists in the Metro East have been placed on unpaid leave by the company for their refusal to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception, the company said today. "

I should like to point out to the Post Dispatch and Walgreens that Illinois Gov. Blagojevech’s executive order requiring all abortifacient prescriptions to be filled at Illinois pharmacies IS NOT A LAW; it is binding only on state employees, NOT the general populace. This measure was NOT enacted by the Illinois General assembly. It is illegal to enforce an executive order on other than state employees. Pharmacies are not state employees simply by virtue of the fact that they accept state money for prescriptions. What the governor has done is both unconstitutional and illegal. If the press knew or cared anything about the U.S. Constitution, other than promoting their anti-American propaganda, they wouldn’t print this drivel.

I’m sure that Walgreen’s decision to discipline and fire these four pharmacists was purely a business one, i.e. an attempt to limit losses from potential legal actions by the Illinois Governor’s people. But, as I see it, you’re the ‘Spin Meister’ at Walgreen Drugs, a position whose principal job function is to deflect criticism of the company, essentially promising patrons anything, WITHOUT committing company executives to any specific actions that you personally might pledge.

I have discontinued my patronage of Walgreens, switching to OSCO and would encourage others reading to find another pharmacy as well. I intend to continue to Boycott Walgreen Drugs until these four men are reinstated in their jobs and will encourage others to do the same. I would further suggest that the public look to the Internet for their news rather than wasting time reading the Post-Dispatch. It’s why you people are afraid of SPAM, isn’t it? And rest assured sir, that many more people will read my comments besides the few individuals that I’ve copied herein.
